India Seeks Interim Trade Deal with U.S

News: India is advancing toward an interim trade deal with the U.S., aiming to finalize the first phase before July, ahead of Washington’s planned tariffs.
The phased negotiations cover improved market access for industrial and agricultural goods and address non-tariff issues like quality standards.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is in Washington meeting top U.S. officials to accelerate talks. A broader second phase is expected between September and November, focusing on 20 key sectors, possibly aligning with a visit by U.S.
President Trump for a Quad summit. A final comprehensive agreement may follow next year. However, tensions remain, with India hinting at retaliatory tariffs and denying Trump’s claim of brokering India-Pakistan peace.
