Transportation Pricing Index Reaches Peak Level

News: Transportation prices surged to a two-year high in December, according to the Logistics Managers’ Index (LMI).

The index rose to 66.8, up 3 percentage points from November, marking the highest growth rate since April 2022. Strong consumer demand and record e-commerce deliveries were key factors driving the increase.

The LMI’s transportation capacity subindex rose to 53.2, indicating modest growth for the third consecutive month, though it remains lower than the pricing subindex by 13.6 points. Despite this, available transportation capacity has not contracted since March 2022. The 12-month outlook for capacity is neutral, but supply chain managers expect higher rates, with a forward-looking pricing expectation of 77.
