Govt of Kerala Launches Logistics Park Network
News: THIRUVANANTHAPURAM – In anticipation of the upcoming Vizhinjam International Transshipment Port, the Kerala state government is taking significant steps to support businesses connected to the port by launching a network of Logistics Parks.
These parks, strategically located near the new port—which is a key infrastructure project for the region—will span approximately 600 acres across Vizhinjam and its neighboring areas, including Venganoor and Balaramapuram.
This ambitious initiative aligns with the recently approved logistics park policy, which also entails acquiring around 600 hectares of land through a land pooling arrangement.
The land pooling system aims to reduce resistance to acquisition by providing landowners with tangible benefits in exchange for their cooperation. Additionally, the state government is conducting awareness campaigns in the local communities to highlight the positive impacts of the project, such as job creation and regional development associated with the port and its logistics parks. These efforts are intended to alleviate concerns and foster community support, particularly regarding the sensitive issue of land pooling.
The government is also in the process of formalizing specific regulations for the development of logistics parks, including land acquisition protocols. However, this process is expected to take time. In the meantime, the state is focused on ensuring landowners are fully informed about the potential advantages of the project.
One proposed condition stipulates that at least 70% of landowners in a specific area must agree to the acquisition before any land is officially acquired, ensuring broad community backing and minimizing opposition. Once operational, these logistics parks will serve as a significant asset for private businesses, facilitating efficient transportation of goods to and from the Vizhinjam port.
